Rural settlement pattern
There are five rural settlement pattern
1. Checkerboard pattern
2. Triangular pattern
3. circular pattern
4. Star pattern
5. Linear pattern
➡️ Checkerboard pattern
In grounds where the road crosses each other at 90° that cross section area of a village is known as checkerboard pattern . It is that kind of pattern in which the lanes are almost straight meeting each other at right angle.
➡️Triangular pattern
Triangular patterns are that patterns of rural settlement that generally develop at the confluence of rivers. The lateral expansion of houses at the confluence is constrained by the rivers. That's why the settlement acquires a triangular shape and known as triangular pattern.
➡️circular pattern
The people prefer to stay near the water , they construct their houses along the coasts. Such settlements acquire the circular or semicircular shapes. This pattern of settlement is known as circular pattern.
➡️Star pattern
Star settlements develop on the sites and places where several roads converge. In the star shaped settlement houses spread out along the sides of roads in all direction.
➡️Linear pattern
Linear pattern is the other most important design of settlements. In the linear settlements, houses are arranged along either side of a road, railway lines, river or canal.
